World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will increase 3percent of its previous damage for every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Glyphs
