Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was a return to a traditional sextet style, and a more consistent, stronger album with a sharper edge. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard playing was also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on earlier efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album a few months after and embarked on a world tour to support the album. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in the form of a double-album called Then and Now in 2001.
