Ford-New.pngHow to Replace an Audi q7 replacement key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test since there are different pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, audi tt key case advanced key - cleveland-Rooney.mdwrite.net - gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is failing and requires audi a4 replacement key. They're cheap and easy to find particularly in the case of an Bosch model like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your Audi A1 keys's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a standard part across the key audi 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.toyota-logo-2020.png
